Imogen Cooper: Writing for Children – Age 16+ (~50mins)

How to write a best-selling children’s book!

Imogen Cooper, previously Editorial Director at Chicken House Publishing, started the Golden Egg Academy at her kitchen table in 2014 whilst working for Chicken House MD Barry Cunningham, the first publisher of Harry Potter.

In 2015 Golden Egg became her main focus and since then she has helped over 100 children’s writers gain agents or publishing contracts.

At Chicken House, Imogen won the Branford Boase Award for her editorial input and worked with authors such as the internationally successful MAZE RUNNER series author, James Dashner, and Cornelia Funke, author of the bestselling INKHEART series.

Many children’s writers graduating from the academy have received awards and acclaim including Blue Peter Award winner Vashti Hardy, Book of the Year award winner M. G. Leonard, Sainsbury’s and Crime Fest award winner Serena Patel and James Nicol whose best-selling Apprentice Witch series is in development with Lime Pictures.

Imogen will be giving aspiring children’s authors an insight into what it takes to create a successful children’s book and what the children’s publishing industry is really like.
