The Betti Moretti Prizes for Poetry, Illustration and Film

Lizzie (Betti) Moretti (1969 – 2023) was a poet, illustrator and musician resident in Bewdley.

For 10 years, Lizzie was a key collaborator, performer and organiser with Bewdley Youth Festival, which is the banner under which Bewdley Festival of the Arts delivers performing and other arts opportunities for young people. Under her creative name of Betti Moretti, Lizzie was also the Worcestershire Poet Laureate for 2018-19.

Bewdley Festival is creating an annual series of arts competitions which will honour Lizzie’s memory, her life as a creative individual, and help continue the opportunities that she supported through her work with Bewdley Youth Festival

Poetry Competition

For the inaugural poetry competition in 2025 we are teaming up with the Severn Valley Railway and are asking about your memories of the Severn Valley Railway and steam trains.  prizes to be awarded during the “Step into Stories” children’s story festival organised by Bewdley Festival in April 2025.

The competition for the Betti Moretti Prize for Poetry will be open to any young person living in or attending school in the county of Worcestershire with the winners from across three age groups:

Ages 4-7
Ages 8-12
Ages 13-16

Judging of the entries will be by a panel chosen by Bewdley Festival of the Arts and Worcestershire Literary Festival.

Feb 6th – launch
Feb 15th – entries open
March 24th – deadline
March 28th – winner announced
